ABOUT THE ARTIST
Dale Freiler is an Amite, Louisiana artist with a B. A. E. and M. F. A. from the University of Mississippi. She has studied at the Kansas City Art Institute, New York Studio School, Boston University, and the San Francisco Art Institute. She was an Art Instructor at Southern Louisiana University. She is in collections around the country.

She imbues the works with a rich sense of color, shape and symbolism. Although her work is deeply personal, she believes strongly that it should stand on its own as a visual and emotional experience. This is her first solo exhibition at the gallery.

IN HER OWN WORDS

I was greatly influenced by Robert Rauschenberg’s solvent transfers that were done in the late 50’s. I’ve always enjoyed the process of rubbings…they’re fast, spontaneous and fun! The relationship between the images is where the story lies.

My oil paintings are a new direction for me. For each piece, I begin with first completing a collage of images from printed materials. Then I use the collage as a starting point…sometimes the collage changes as I complete the work.

The statement I’m making in the oil paintings is that we are more complex individuals than the ‘personalities’ that we present to each other…delightfully layered…and within those layers is the story of who we are.
