IN HER OWN WORDS

Simply put, I like stripes. I like paint on aluminum…not too much paint, so, I began subtracting paint with an electric angle grinder. Eventually, I wanted to see even more of the aluminum, so I stripped the paint to a stain allowing patterns to show through. Lastly, I made pedestal forms combining all of the previous techniques, then, torching the aluminum to the melting point of 1200 degrees. The elongation and diameter of the forms fit perfectly with the shape of the sanding pad.

My past shows at d.o.c.s. gallery have been rusty metal found objects. In this exhibit, there is only one found-object piece, all the other sculptures were made using aluminum angle, keel caps and spray rails typically used in the fabrication of shipbuilding.
