ABOUT THE ARTIST
Mark Chatterley is a Williamston, Michigan sculptor. He received his BFA and MFA from Michigan State University in East Lansing, Michigan. This exhibition focuses on his hand built ceramic figures. Each ceramic piece is unique, with the surfaces ranging from a shiny metallic to a crusty texture reminiscent of rusted metal or weathered stone.

This is his sixth solo show in New Orleans. He has had shows throughout the United States as well as in Korea, Taiwan and New Zealand. His works are in public and private collections around the world.

IN HIS OWN WORDS

An artist is to bear witness.
A witness to what?
That we are more than insignificant specks in the cosmic dust.
Standing up and saying I am important too.  I count.
To document a way of thinking, at a specific point of time.
Leaving something behind, a fear of death?
A fear of not experiencing it all before the end.
A way to understand the world we live in.
Communicating in a non verbal, visual way.
To open up new thoughts and feelings.
To set up situations to expand one’s self.
What fun would it be to know where you are going all the time?
The journey is what it is all about.
