IN HIS OWN WORDS

I like to take a small grouping of figures, arranging them in such fashion as to create tension and suggest a small, momentary story. I prefer the female figure which provides a softer, more elegant line flow quality to the entire work, and I like to be daring. In doing so, it establishes the territory and parameters of erotic art, but, in a responsible manner. Still, there is some disapproval and, occasionally, outrage.

So, erotic expression is a tension between forces, appearing in nature, human endeavor, thunderstorms and amplified guitar notes. What I find most interesting is that my entire sculptural career is tuned to this direction and almost every piece of work fabricated is no longer mine. What I also find interesting is that major corporations, universities, and private foundations
have recently commissioned from me large works of similar themes. These figures are the size of pick up trucks, hued from five to eight ton marble blocks.

I am currently working on four monumental works which convinces me that responsible erotic feel, works with nude, figurative tension, is being aggressively pursued. The concept of visually safe, generic art is wearing thin because artistic safety can only be achieved by offering nothing of interest. The viewing public is indeed educated, but, has had it’s fill of the dull and boring. It pleases me that large commissioned works demand a sense of dynamic mystery, something full of emotion and life blood, the very building blocks of eroticism.
