Shae Freeman is a New Orleans sculptor originally from Minnesota, where she received her BA in Sculpture and Native American Studies from the University of Minnesota. An early childhood predilection for her father’s tools gave way to a myriad of experiences in the automotive realm… mechanic, detailer, UPS driver, and her favorite, race car driver. She initially enrolled in the U of M to become an astrophysicist, but after 3 years in that field of study, changed her major to sculpture. After graduating, she moved to New Orleans and has a studio in the Bywater area. She was one of seven artists selected for the 2006 Louisiana Biennial at the New Orleans’ ContemporaryIN HER OWN WORDS 'blueprint/imprint' is a new body of work that explores nature as a blueprint for dictating form and genetic memory as an imprint that dictates function. Using materials ranging from steel to circuit boards, I delve into imagery and archetypes imbedded in the human psyche despite 'modern' society and its 'separation' from the natural world. |
